The practice

A practice where
you get the time

Shiny Smile is a small dental practice on Van Halewijnlaan in Voorburg. Small enough to know you, equipped enough to handle almost everything in-house — from check-ups to crowns.

How we work

We start by looking, not drilling

At your first appointment we go through your teeth calmly and tell you what we see. Treatment comes after that conversation, not before it.

Prevention is the point

Two check-ups a year, X-rays only when they’ll actually tell us something, and practical advice on brushing and interdental cleaning. It sounds dull. It saves most people a great deal of drilling.

You always know the cost

For anything substantial you get a written estimate first. No invoice afterwards that makes you wince.

Nervous? Say so

Roughly one person in five dreads this. We work in smaller steps, explain before we do anything, and stop when you tell us to.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Will I see the same dentist every time?

Yes — that's the point of a small practice. We've been at the same address since 2014 with the same team of four, and we keep it that way deliberately. You won't have to explain your history from scratch at every visit.

Our dentists trained at ACTA in Amsterdam and are both on the BIG register.the Dutch government register of qualified healthcare professionals, which you can check yourself online. Valid photo ID — passport, ID card or driving licence — and your health insurance card. It also helps to bring the name of your previous dentist, so we can request your records and X-rays, and a list of any medication you take.

Once, yes, a short questionnaire about your health and any medication you take. It isn't a formality, some conditions and medicines change what we can safely do. You fill it in at the practice rather than online; medical details don't belong in a web form.

Enough that nothing has to be rushed. We book longer than strictly necessary, because rushed appointments produce exactly what people dread: things that go unexplained. A check-up takes around twenty minutes, longer if we clean as well.

We recommend twice a year. That isn't a ritual: at six-monthly intervals a new cavity is still a small cavity, and early gum inflammation can still be reversed.
Keeping up your dental care is ultimately your own responsibility — we remind you, but they're your teeth. If someone hasn't been for more than two years we may remove them from our list; a single appointment within that time prevents it.

Most things we do ourselves: check-ups, fillings, root canal treatment, crowns and bridges, gum treatment and cosmetic work. Soon enough we also place implants. Oral surgery is the one thing we don't do ourselves. If a treatment is specialised enough that you'd be better off elsewhere, we'll say so and refer you.

Yes. Fizzah Anwar is our dental hygienist and handles cleanings and the follow-up care for gum problems. We schedule it separately from your check-up, so there's time to do it unhurried and to explain what you might change at home.

About one person in five dreads it, so it's nothing unusual here. Mention it when you book: we work in smaller steps, explain what we're doing before we do it, and stop when you tell us to.

No. We take them when they'll tell us something we can't otherwise see — usually every couple of years. If you're new, we'll ask your previous dentist for your existing images with your permission, so you don't get unnecessary new ones.

Yes. For children under 18, dental care is largely covered by the Dutch basic health insurance and there's no excess to pay. It's easier when the whole family is registered at one practice, fewer trips, fewer separate appointments.
